Back in Full Swing

The Quilting Corner get-together is back in full swing.  It was like a high school reunion without the pom-poms.  The atmosphere was electrifying, especially after they plugged in all the sewing machines.  Etty was just as busy as a little mouse, running around.
(Please note: this is not an actual picture of Etty)
I, hubby, was ask to comment since a flood of requests came in – all two of them.  I will let Etty tell you all the details; I’m too excited to continue.
Monday was a full morning.  Seventeen ladies came for our shiur (lecture) and sewing.  We were falling over each other in my tiny apartment.  It was so good to see everyone being so involved.  Not everyone was here and two of us didn't have seats.  Everyone was anxious to be together after 3 weeks of my being away.
Avigail has her latest quilt top finished. The back is just a drop too small so she will make it larger and then on to putting her sandwich together, hopefully next week.  Great job Avigail!
More to come on future posts.  I bet you can't wait?

A Big Thank You

I'm back from my trip to America.  I wish to thank all of you that have written me with condolences for the loss of my two relatives.  Both my sister and brother lost their spouses within 24 hours of each other.  One from a long illness and the other from a fatal car crash.  Your concern and well wishes have meant a great deal to me and our family.  A very big thank you goes to my Hubby for keeping up with this blog.  He did a fantastic job and now I know that I can be replaced (certainly with more humor).  Thanks to our new followers.  Welcome aboard.  I'm sorry that I was unable to respond to each and every one of you.  I will try to continue with the blog but it will be a hard act to follow my Hubby.
Note from Hubby:  Dear Etty -- I am still available since we reside at the same abode.  I do not make quilts; I make quips.  If you need assistance, just ask.

Before and After

Renee S's daughter, Mimi, made her first quilt.  She made the quilt during the summer when Renee was visiting.  Unfortunately, it fell apart in the wash; but, Mimi did a wonderful job of remaking it.  Excellent first attempt at quilting.  Here are the before and after pictures showing the falling apart and the fixing it up.

Sara with Another Disappearing 9 Patch

Sara has really been busy and has made another Disappearing 9 patch -- this time set on point.  It is ready to be sandwiched.  Sara is definitely a talented quiltress (is that the proper terminology for a female quilter or did I just make up a word?  What do men know?  I'm still trying to find all these 9 patches that have disappeared).
The best news is Etty comes home today.  Whoopee!

Sara's Disappearing 9 Patch

Sara made this Disappearing 9 patch that I believe we had shown in progress, but is now completed, and lovely it is.

Sara's Placemat

Sara has made this beautiful placemat that will be one of a new set that she is making for gifts.  This will dress up any table; but, I would be afraid to spill something on it (I'm not always the neatest eater).  Hopefully, it is washable.

International Quilt Festival of Ireland

The ladies of the Quilting Corner received an Email from a representative in Ireland who is coordinating what appears to be a very exciting quilt festival.  I thought I would show you the letter since this is something that all our followers around the world might want to participate in.
Hi Ladies,
My name is Caitlin Hacker and I work for the International Quilt Festival of Ireland. I wanted to email you because I came across your blog recently and I was wondering if you would be interested in possibly submitting a quilt or a quilted item for one of our festival's exhibits.
The International Quilt Festival of Ireland is set to bring over 6,000 international visitors to Ireland, specifically to Galway, next June 7th-10th. You can check out our website,http://www.iqfoi.com/, for all of the details regarding the festival. All of the quilts and quilted items featured in our exhibits will be highlighted in a very special online book, where we will not only highlight the quilts, but also highlight the quilters who made them. We will also provide an electronic link to the quilter's website, blog or email that they provide for us. Some of the exhibits include My Quilted Garden, Patchwork Promises, The Road Less Traveled, Chocolate Decadence, Yin & Yang, 3-D Movie Quilts, and many more. You can find a full list on our website under Exhibits.
Just email me back when you get a chance and let me know if this is something you would be interested in. Thanks very much and I look forward to hearing from you!
Cheers,
Caitlin

This will be presented to the Quilting Corner ladies when they resume their weekly get-together on Monday, 28 November.

Renee's Shopping Wagon

Renee S decorated her shopping wagon with colorful material.  Probably soon everyone in Betar Illit will be wanting one.  Isn't fabric fun?

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!

A young lady confidently walked around the room while leading a training session, explaining stress management to the audience; with a raised glass of water, and everyone knew she was going to ask the ultimate question, 'half empty or half full?'...
She fooled them all...
"How heavy is this glass of water?” she inquired with a smile.
Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.
She replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter.
It depends on how long I hold it.
If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.
If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.
If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.
In each case it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."
She continued, "and that’s the way it is with stress. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on."
"As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again.
When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden - holding stress longer and better each time practiced.
So, as early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down.
Don't carry them through the evening and into the night...
Pick them up tomorrow.
Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment.
Relax, pick them up later
After you've rested.
Life is short.
Enjoy it and the now 'supposed' stress that you've conquered!"

1. Accept the fact that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue!
2. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.
3. Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.
4. Drive carefully... It's not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker.
5. If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
6. If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
7. It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
8. Never buy a car you can't push.
9. Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.
10. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.
11. Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.
12. The second mouse gets the cheese.
13. When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
14. Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.
15. You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.
16. Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once.
17. We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.
18. A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
19. Have an awesome day and know that someone thought about you today.
20. It was me, your friend!

Latest Blocks For the Underground Railroad Quilt

Sara completed additional blocks for our Underground Railroad Sampler Quilt project.  Her Carpenter's Wheel is beautiful but has one problem -- it is the wrong size.  The pattern Sara used resulted in a 16" block while the sampler quilt requires all blocks to be 12".  It is not really a problem since this lovely block will find a home some day in another quilt.  No quilter's block will ever be wasted just sometimes delayed.  Sara is making a 12" replacement.
Sara also made a beautiful Log Cabin block but unfortunately the picture is a little blurry.  This proves that drinking and photography don't mix.  Sara did not take the picture.  Unfortunately, our official Quilting Corner camera is in the United States; so, we could not obtain a better picture.  Perhaps, when the camera returns next week, we will clear the air and the picture.
Etty also made a Log Cabin and a fine job she did and a clear picture.
Etty also received the instructions from Roxanne on the new blocks to be made this month.  Etty will share that with you when she returns.

Betar Illit

Here is a video of a flight over the city of Betar Illit in the Judean Hills where the Quilting Corner lives (and of course, we live there too). Be sure to go full screen for the best effect.
Wasn't that exciting?  It got my blood pumping!

Budrutz Got New Stock

Before Etty left she was at Budrutz and was very happy to see allot of new patterns had arrived.  She noted that Budrutz had displayed the new fabric in a very organized manner.  All dots were together, all strips were together, colors, etc.  Etty likes well organized displays and thanked Budrutz for displaying everything so beautifully.  I guess that makes Etty a material witness.

Sara's Disappearing 9 Patch

Sara started this lovely Disappearing 9 Patch on point and I, hubby, am pretending that I know what I'm talking about.  Hurry home Etty.  I do like pastel colors and will be anxious to see the finished quilt.  I've noticed that everything that Sara makes is wonderful.

400th Quilting Corner Post

I didn't realize that yesterday's post about the quilt in progress for me, hubby, was the 400th post for the Quilting Corner.  Etty wanted to reserve that post for a giveaway.  I am sure she will still have a giveaway but it will have to wait for her return on 23 November.  Etty is the giveaway expert, I am privileged to pay for the shipping.  I hope she will forgive me for using this significant post for my own personal benefit and hope that I don't become the prize of the giveaway (I am not available even though Etty does consider me to be a prize -- I think).

A Quilt For My Hubby

Another pre-drafted by Etty that I thought this would be the perfect time to sneak it in.  When the quilter's away the hubby will get his way.

I never made a quilt for my hubby.  Shame on me.  The quilt he is using is one that I made, but not especially for him.  He liked it allot and when I wasn't looking, he stole it.  Even though he likes the quilt he is using, hubby wants me to make one that he planned.  So using Quilt Wizard, a design program that I have, he designed the Jacob's Ladder in colors that he wants (he believes real men use blue).  It's too bad I didn't know Bonnie Hunter was having a quilt along for this same quilt.  Perhaps, I can join her program at this late date.  Anyway, this quilt is now on my list.  I'm fortunate that my hubby is a patient person.  He has hopes of receiving it for a special birthday coming up in two and a half years (hubby note: no details will be mentioned as to which birthday it is).  We will try; but, don't hold your breath.

Exciting News from Pissott

A very exciting message was received on Etty’s Email (don’t tell her that I have been reading her mail -- whoops, I think I just told her).
Please read:
To see this message on Pissott's website, click:
It looks like the women from the Quilting Corner and all of Pissott's customers are in for a real treat.  Even I am excited but the women won't let me join the Quilting Corner (OK, Etty won't let me join).

Counted X Stitch

Here is a post Etty drafted before she left.

Another Shoshana has joined our group.  Her specialty is counted x stitch and she is fabulous with it.  This week (which is now last week) she was working on children's patterns.  You have to have a great deal of patience for this and it's worth every minute of it.

A Quilting Corner Blog Hiatus

Due to death in the family, Etty had to make an emergency trip to the US.  Unless she finds items of interest to put on the Quilting Corner blog, she will not be posting until after her return on 23 November.  I, hubby, will post items over the coming weeks but not with the daily frequency that Etty posted (I don’t know how she did it).  The Quilting Corner ladies will be meeting on Mondays at one of the other member’s home.  If they have any items that they would like posted, I would be happy to assist.

I do send my condolences to Etty’s family for their tragic loss.

Progress On Star Quilt

I decided after making many stars that I better start putting them together with some hexagons.  I have no idea how many I need to make and since this is hand work, I don't want to make a million extra.  I decided to use a white on white fabric between the stars.  Nothing else looked good to me.
