Hinda's Jeans Quilt

Hinda just completed another Jeans quilt for a family member.
This time she only ragged the edges which made for a faster completion to the quilt.  These quilts are very warm and young people really seem to enjoy them.  Hinda you did a wonderful job once again.

Susan's Summer in the Park Quilt

Susan had a fantastic quilt for Show & Tell this week.  It's called Summer in the Park.
You can see a video tutorial on how to make it on the Missouri Quilt Company website.
If you have any questions about this quilt, Susan would be happy to answer any inquiries that you may have.  http://susanquilts.blogspot.com/
Her choice of border was great and her machine quilting was an inspiration to all of us that have not mastered this skill.

Our First Quilt-a-Thon

Monday, instead of our regular shiur (Bible Study) and quilting, we had our first Quilt-a-Thon.
We worked together from 9:30AM to 3:00PM with a short break for lunch.  It was wonderful to see the teamwork and cooperation we experienced in making the necessary decisions.  A very big thank you goes to Stephanie in Texas for donating these lovely fabrics!  Most of the fabrics used where from Stephanie's stash.  We hope to have our quilts go to children in crisis that live in Betar and Jerusalem.  We will be happy to except donations of any fabric or batting from your stash.
Starting on the left is Etty (me), Rina, Avigail, Sara, Bryna and Susan.  Chaya also came but didn't make it into the picture.
I have a small apartment, so we use all rooms.  My husband is often available in the study to do any computer, graphics, or printing requests.  We used the kitchen, living-room, sewing room and even the hallway.  This is Rina in my hallway.
These are the initial results of our Quilt-a-thon.
I captured a happy moment with Susan.  Maybe this is why she calls her blog Scrap Happy.  She is a happy, talented quilter.
Our goal is to finish these quilts next week and then to expand to quilts other than squares.  This was a great beginning for us.

A Genuine Quilting Inspiration

It is a shame that she is so far away -- I would love to have her in our quilting group.
May G-d bless her and thank her for giving us such true inspiration.  We learn that anything is possible.

Sara Completed Two New Projects

Message from Sara:
Hi,
I've attached two of the newest quilting projects I have completed.
The jeans quilt is for my granddaughter Miriam who requested a larger quilt than the one she has. My pleasure to fulfill that request. (ed: When the grandchildren request quilts, it sure makes quilting that much more worthwhile)
The wall hanging is a pattern called "Winding Ways". It has been something I have wanted to do ever since I started quilting. It is hanging on the wall in my workroom.  I love it!
Sara

Another ed:  I liked this wall hanging so much that I made it the new background for the Quilting Corner blog.  Did you notice?

Something Fishy Going On

Being so fond of bags and wanting to save the environment from a plastic disaster, led me to this fish bag that I wanted to share with you.
It doesn't look like a bag but when you unzip his little behind -- wallah!
Cute? Huh?
Thanks to Shoshana R for this lovely, practical gift.

Rina's Latest Batik Quilt

Rina has started a Batik Quilt for her husband.  So don't tell him please.  Rina used the Crazy Curves templates and pattern from the Crazy Curves book.  There was enough fabric left over to make an entire back made up of squares.  It's fantastic and everyone loves it.  Rina is planning to machine quilt this.

Tu B'Shvat Get-Together

This Thursday is the Jewish celebration of Tu B'Shvat which is the 15th day of the month of Shvat on the lunar calendar.  The day represents the renewal of our trees, plants and fruits.  In honor of this each lady that came today received a little bamboo plant to take home.  Some call it the happiness plant.  And it worked!  Everyone was happy to get one.

Renee S made a clever apron.  She liked this fabric and didn't want to cut it into pieces so she came up with this idea.  Very smart idea.  Of course now she won't want to get it dirty.
Renee S is still getting requests from friends to make mini tote bags so here are two of her latest.
This is the bag Renee S was working on last week.  It now has the necessary finished pockets for cell phone, etc.

Sara spent the morning clipping her latest jeans rag quilt.  She, as usual, has had it especially embroidered with the name of that special person.

Here is Esther showing us her latest applique wall hanging.  She enjoys applique and does a beautiful job.  We were so happy to see her.   Since she moved to Beit Shemash we don't get to see her as often as we would like.
Susan has been quilting her little basket quilt.  I am amazed at how tiny her stitches are.  The quilt is just darling and will be so lovely hanging in her home.  Everyone that sees it wants to make one too.

New Sewing Machine For Etty

I've never had my own sewing machine so this week I took the plunge.  I bought a Janome and it runs beautifully.  It has lots of whistles and bells, so I have lots to learn.  The sound it makes is music to my ears.

Progress on My Design Wall

I'm making progress on this quilt and I'm starting to like it more.  I will like it more after I have the boarders on.  The fabrics have the famous game "Tic Tac Toe" as its theme.  I'll have to teach this game to my granddaughter when she gets older.

New On The Design Wall

My granddaughter's birthday is coming up soon.  I've started a quilt for her and I don't have much time to get it done.  I've procrastinated, so now it's a rush.  I hope it will go together easily.

Shifra's Pink Baby Quilt

Shifra didn't have much time to make her latest baby quilt but it was finished in a flash.  It's pink and white fleece.  It has lots of flowers on the back.  So warm and cozy.

Bryna's Snails Trail Quilt

This is Bryna's last finished quilt for 2010.  She made this for her grandson.  It's completely hand quilted so I tried to get good pictures of this for you to see.  She does beautiful work.  Mazel Tov Bryna on the Bar Mitzvah of another grandson.

First Get-Together of 2011

Naomi joined us for show and tell today.  She took a wine glass and decorated it on the outside. It's painted with a sponge and garnished with small pearls.  It makes a lovely gift for special occasions like weddings, etc.  Naomi never fails to amaze us with the projects that she comes up with.  She has many original ideas.

Sara received her quilt back from Susan.  Susan was kind enough to machine quilt this for Sara.  Quilting friends are the best!  I like to call it The Candy Quilt, because it reminds me of licorice candy I used to eat when I was a child.  This will be a duvet cover so the quilting in black thread will only seen on the top.  This is something we all have to learn how to do.

Renee B is progressing with her bumper pad for her new great-grandchild.  She's at the point where she has to add the strings that will join it to the crib.  This wasn't any easy project to do.  Renee had to start from scratch and figure this out step by step with no instructions.

Shifra has a new grandchild born on 1/1/11 and it's the 11th grandchild so it's very special.  She is making a quick Baby Block quilt in fleece for the baby.  Here she is trying out background colors that will look good both with the front and the floral backing.  Mazel Tov Shifra to you and the family.

Bryna is hand quilting her red, white and blue quilt and it's looking wonderful.  Bryna may machine piece her tops but she only does hand quilting which takes lots of time.
